Ilonka L, 25.03.21:
I am 64 years old. Due to low estrogen levels, I have thin, dry mucous membranes on my vulva and at the entrance to the vagina. I also have problems with an episiotomy and a scar from a biopsy. This results in pain during intercourse and slight incontinence. My goals are to make the tissue more flexible and to do pelvic floor exercises.
The following questions arise for me:
- How often per week should it be used?
- How long should an application take approximately?
- There is uncertainty about the dilator sizes. The D28 works quite well. I find the D32 uncomfortable. Should it be used in 2 mm or 4 mm increments? Is a smaller or larger size advisable for pelvic floor training?
Answer: I recommend using it every day or two. It is important that you have time and privacy; training in a rush is counterproductive. Depending on how well you can get into it, around 10 - 15 minutes per application will be enough. Start with a size that you can handle without pain and always be gentle and loving with yourself. The inner attitude should be more of a self-love ritual than a "training". I would also recommend the 2 mm gradation because it is simply gentler, i.e. in your case use a D30. You can find further recommendations at https://theros.de/en/pages/use-of-dilators-for-vaginismus or in the instructions for use.
