Special pelvic floor exercises after birth of a newborn child?

Question from Sabine B: Two weeks ago, I gave birth to our son at 42 weeks — he was a stargazer baby (that is, he was born in the occiput posterior position). Do I need to take anything special into account when doing pelvic floor exercises after this type of birth, to avoid overstraining? And do you have any tips on which size of your Kegel ball to choose — would the 40 mm or 50 mm ball be better to help with recovery?

Answer: This type of birth doesn’t change the general exercise recommendations. You should definitely wait until everything has fully healed. To start with, use a 50 mm Viball® only in horizontal positions — lying on your back or stomach, or in the knee–elbow position — since the extra weight might otherwise be too much for the beginning.
Alternatively, if you want to use a Viball® while upright in everyday life, you could go for the Viball® 50 mm Light, which is much lighter. But don’t start with that before the end of your postpartum period — so not before week 7.
