With the onset of menopause, the possibility of radical change and great freedom begins

Please note: the therapy sessions are conducted exclusively in German.

Finally, children and career are no longer our top priority, but we can focus on ourselves - we just have to do it! The menopause is a time of restructuring and adjustment, a real time of change. I also call this phase "midlife puberty" because it poses a similar challenge to the ability to become new as actual puberty in young years.

Menopausal symptoms in the form of physical or psychological symptoms such as the well-known hot flushes or estrogen deficiency force us to confront ourselves. They are often demanding and do not necessarily feel good. The menopause can be a hormonal rollercoaster, a real period of change. It can also offer an opportunity, sometimes forced, to shift the focus from the outside to the inside, from prioritizing family and work to caring for ourselves.

menopausal complaints and symptoms

What actually happens during menopause? It is the expression of the hormonal changes in midlife in women, but it is not an illness or a deficiency. However, all kinds of turbulence can occur in the form of physical and psychological symptoms. Perhaps you are not affected by them - or not yet? Research assumes that around a third of all women do not develop any problems, another third have mild symptoms and the last third have moderate to severe symptoms.

The most common menopausal symptoms are:

  • hot flashes
  • nervousness
  • sleep disorders
  • joint pain and muscle symptoms
  • depression
  • fatigue
  • sexual dysfunction
  • heart problems

At first, this sounds theoretical and may have nothing to do with you. If you listen carefully to yourself, you may discover one or two complaints. This is completely normal, just like you had spots as a teenager or were plagued by nausea during pregnancy. It would be strange if such a restructuring process took place without noticeable signs. The more calmly you deal with it, the easier it will be for you to accept.

treatment of menopause

From a gynecological point of view, hormone replacement therapy was for a long time the method of choice for treating menopausal symptoms. It is now called hormone therapy and is only used in severe cases or at the express request of the patient, as it can have many side effects.

Before you take this step, you have a variety of options for self-help. You can alleviate many symptoms through diet, sport, exercise, especially in the fresh air, and regulating your attitude towards this phase of life. You can also seek help from doctors, alternative practitioners and therapists who specialize in natural medicine. There are treatment options in homeopathy, herbal medicine, TCM (traditional Chinese medicine), Ayurvedic medicine and many other medical disciplines. There are also traditional home remedies that are worth trying out.

What you can do for yourself is above all to accept the changes in your body, its appearance, its possibilities, its needs. Among other things, it means saying goodbye to physical fertility. The ovaries gradually stop working and we women are no longer able to get pregnant. If the desire to have children has been fulfilled before, it is usually not a big challenge. You may find it more difficult that your body's structures become softer, that wrinkles appear and that the odd fat pad develops.

What makes matters worse is that the subject is either ignored or treated with disdain in society. Women generally encounter little understanding for their problems and older women, unlike older men, are less valued. This makes it all the more important that we are kind to ourselves and look back on our own achievements in life with appreciation. This can be achieved by dealing with our own inner attitude and by deciding to gain something positive from this phase of life and discover the treasures of the menopause. Instead of remaining in a state of lack, you can actively work on your mindset and your beliefs about the menopause.

The Wealth of Menopause

As unpleasant as your menopause may be, you can be sure that it can lead you to a more fulfilling life. If you use it and accept it as an invitation to self-determination. The average current life expectancy of women in Germany was over 83 years in 2020. This means that after the regular retirement age and the menopause, you still have about a quarter of your life ahead of you. Let this time be rich with a mixture of fulfilling your needs, wishes and plans according to the motto: If not now, then when. And passing on your acquired skills to the community on the basis of your life experience and grown wisdom.

I want to inspire you for this phase of life and support you in discovering your inner wealth. It's all already there!
